Issues

The Texas Election Reform Coalition is fighting to see Texas fulfill a promise of a more ethical and representative democracy. Every eligible Texas voter deserves access to casting their ballot with ease and free from intimidation.

Article 2 of the Texas Constitution makes clear that “all political power is inherent in the people.”

Texans cannot wait a moment longer: we need nonpartisan reforms to improve voter access. Failure to act has a global impact. Texas’s voter turnout is in the bottom ⅕ of states in our nation, and America’s voter turnout is in the bottom ⅓ of democracies in the world.

Our state has the second-largest number of registered voters, as well as the second-largest voter eligible population. Why does Texas rank 41st in turnout?

The Election Audit Division of the Texas Secretary of State reported that only 0.00001625% of votes cast in the last two years were investigated for voter fraud, resulting in only five convictions. Meanwhile, 9.6 million registered voters found themselves disenfranchised by lack of investment in Texas’ elections.

Improving access and turnout for eligible & registered voters must be the top priority for Texas lawmakers in the 88th Legislative Session.
